Piemonte, European Sports Region
30 Settembre 2022Piemonte is the European Region of Sport 2022: it is the first time that the Federation of European Capitals and Cities of Sport (ACES Europe) has awarded this prestigious recognition to an Italian Region. The choice is due to the fact that Piemonte is “a good example of sport addressed to everyone as an instrument of health, integration, education and respect”.
The title, which has been awarded annually since 2001, in collaboration with the European Parliament, in addition to giving prestige to Piemonte, it allows to create a showcase at a national and international level in which to present, through the organization of initiatives aimed at spreading sports practice, the facilities heritage and the strong sporting vocation of the area, with the aim of operating in the interest of practitioners, local communities and the entire sports movement.
The title of European Region of Sport 2022 is added to the other awards that Piemonte has already won over the years:
* European Capital of Sport (reserved for capitals with more than 500,000 inhabitants) in Turin;
* European City of Sport (Prize reserved for cities with more than 25,000 inhabitants) in Biella, Chieri, Alba and Novara;
* European Town of Sport (reserved for cities with less than 25,000 inhabitants) in Orbassano, Cantalupa, Giaveno, Savigliano, Valdengo, Fossano, Pino Torinese and Busca;
* European Community of Sport (reserved for communities made up of several municipalities): Olympic Municipalities Via Lattea, Valle Varaita, Valsesia, Monferrato, Terre della Lana.
