Jesolo 2018: The Eve of the Championships

The President of Fidal Alfio Giomi, The President Mau Bernard Amsalem the Major Valerio Zoggia raise the curtainof the U23 Mediterranean Championships

The U23 Mediterranean Championships in Jesolo (Venice), scheduled for Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th June from 3.00pm at the Armando Picchi stadium, have today enjoyed their first official appointment on the sea terrace of Villa Sorriso, overlooking the beaches that characterize the famous location Venetian tourism. Raising the curtain on the event were the president of the Italian Athletics Federation Alfio Giomi, the co-president MAU (and member of the IAAF Council) Bernard Amsalem and the Mayor of the City of Jesolo Valerio Zoggia, supported by the General Secretary MAU Jean Gracia and by the Councilor for Sports of the Municipality of Jesolo Esterina Idra. With them also the Technical Development Director Stefano Baldini, the tutor of the National Giovanili Gabriella Dorio and two blue: the blue captain Daisy Osakue (the other, Filippo Randazzo, is coming in these hours) and the Venetian Rebecca Borga. Today at 19.00 they will all be protagonists of the opening ceremony, moved to the Palazzo del Turismo for fear of bad weather. 25 nations competing, with 42 titles up for grabs: 21 for men and for women.

What we will see on tracks and platforms is an Italian generation full of talents, well represented by the two captains Filippo Randazzo and Daisy Osakue. An athletics capable of creating value and capable of being a protagonist in and out of the competition fields ". "I would like to thank the Italian Federation, the Municipality of Jesolo and the Organizing Committee for their efforts for this event. - the words of President MAU Bernard Amsalem - We are happy to see 25 of the 28 nations participating in the Mediterranean Athletics Union, a good sign for all the peoples of the Mediterranean. And I would also like to reiterate the synergy with President Giomi and the Italian Federation, with whom we always work with great pleasure for various European projects ".

"Jesolo - says General Director of the Under 23 Mediterranean Championships Vito Vittorio - has a well-established organizational tradition in athletics. Many of the Azzurri we will see in the race have already competed here at the Criterium Cadetti or at the Italian Allievi Championships, and they keep a good memory ". 25 NATIONS - There are 25 countries enrolled in the 2018 edition of the Mediterranean Under 23 Championships. In addition to Italy, the Nationals of Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece have confirmed their presence. Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Montenegro, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey. A total of 347 athletes are expected on the track in the two afternoons of races, including 185 men and 162 women. 

OPENING CEREMONY - The appointment is at 7.00 pm on Friday 8 June. The headquarters has been moved due to bad weather in the Palazzo del Turismo. It will be at that moment that the Under 23 Mediterranean Championships will officially start, with the parade of the 25 participating nations. To give the rhythm of the Opening Ceremony will be the Fanfare of the Bersaglieri on leave Leopoldo Pellas di Jesolo, directed by Professor Luca Scarpi, and the show of the Majorettes Magic Stars. 

TV AND STREAMING - The Under 23 Mediterranean Championships will be broadcast on Rai Sport with four hours of televised synthesis. The first day will be broadcast on Tuesday 12 June, from 14.45 to 16.45; the second day will be broadcast on Wednesday, June 13th, from 2.45pm to 4.45pm. Commentary by Franco Bragagna with the commentary by Guido Alessandrini. In addition to the space on the Rai networks, the event will be broadcast in full, in live streaming on Atletica TV, the official FIDAL web tv, at www.atletica.tv
